This position is for the full academic year. THIS POSITION IS FOR UPPERCLASSMEN ONLY. FRESHMEN ARE NOT ELIGIBLE TO APPLY FOR DEPARTMENT POSITIONS. Expected hours of work per week : 10-20
Work Location & Hours : Kresge Library; Mon-Thu 7:30 am-midnight; Fri 7:30am- 5:30pm; Sat 11 am-6pm
Expectations for work hours: It is expected that you will be hired to work a specific number of hours per week, as low as 10 and no higher than 20. The number will be decided at the time the student is interviewed and hired, and a repeating weekly schedule will be set before classes begin each semester. Shifts begin on the first day of classes and run through the end of exams. Exam week schedule will be adjusted to accommodate exams, and the number of hours that week will be lower.

Expected Duties and Responsibilities: Circulation Assistants carry out both circulation desk tasks and floor tasks. In this role you will
- Warmly welcome patrons and community members
- Serve patrons by checking items in and out, placing holds, and communicating account information
- Maintain professionalism in punctuality, dress, demeanor
- Answer phone and direct questions to the appropriate staff member
- Answer general questions concerning the library and campus
- Familiarize patrons with shelving basics and the layout of the collection
- Assist patrons in searching the library catalogue, locating resources, and navigating the library
- Maintain a friendly working relationship with the team and professional library staff
- Reshelve books accurately
- Maintain order and cleanliness throughout the library collection
- Maintain hospitable library spaces - straighten tables, spot clean as needed, sanitize high-touch surfaces
- Assist with library projects and special tasks as needed
- Open and close the building without supervision, ensuring the security and safety of the building, its resources, and its users
- Respond to emergencies quickly and efficiently, with the safety of patrons as a top priority
Resume skills development (NACE Competencies required by employers) to be developed

Work Environment This job operates in a professional office environment. This role routinely uses standard office equipment such as computers and phones.
