An established and mission-driven health and benefits organization is seeking an experienced Controller to lead key financial functions and reporting activities in a multi-entity setting. This remote position requires candidates to be based within commuting distance of the SE Michigan area (onsite work may be required in the future). This is an exceptional opportunity for a detail-oriented accounting leader with a background in healthcare or benefits administration and strong technical expertise in Basys software and Advanced Excel skills .
Responsibilities
Prepare and analyze monthly and annual financial statements with supporting notes and variance explanations
Lead month-end and year-end close processes
Manage budgeting, forecasting, and internal reporting
Oversee payroll operations, tax filings (W-2s, 1099s), and compliance
Perform fixed asset and investment accounting and reconciliations
Serve as audit liaison, prepare workpapers, and coordinate external requests
Reconcile GL accounts and manage data exchange between systems and Basys
Requirements
~ Bachelor’s degree in Accounting (CPA preferred)
~10+ years of progressive accounting experience
~ Proficiency in Basys software and advanced Excel
~ Familiarity with Great Plains Dynamics or similar ERP systems
~ Experience with financial reporting tools such as Crystal Reports, Insight, Access, or Power BI
~ Ability to handle confidential information with discretion
~ Prior experience in union, ERISA, or healthcare/benefits environments is a plus
Compensation & Benefits
Base Salary: $110,000 – $125,000 (depending on experience)
