THE IMPACT YOU CAN HAVE:

The Senior Director, Merchandising (Wellness) is responsible for leading growth within our merchandise assortments, building the Wellness category. This leader is very influential and owns a strong voice of Ulta Beauty in the industry as they interact with brand and investor communities, identifying emerging trends and/or brands and onboarding new brand partners to Ulta Beauty across Wellness territories. This leader partners with Brand CEOs/Brand Founders/Leaders to evaluate product development, innovation and retail readiness aligned with strategic business-driving opportunities and growth.

 

This leader will partner within the broader Merchandising organization to grow and execute this business, partnering closely with the Merchandising Leadership team broadly, as well as other cross-functional partners, notably Digital, Planning & Inventory, and Marketing. This role will lead a team of buyers & planners to execute across Wellness.

 

CORE JOB RESPONSIBILITIES:

Leads Merchandising for the Wellness category across buying and planning; participating as a critical leader in the Wellness team that sits within Enterprise Strategy & New Growth (dotted line); and partners closely with Merchandising leadership, reporting to the Chief Merchandising Officer. Key responsibilities include:

  • Wellness Assortment Strategy: Develop merchandise assortment (brand and product) strategy and pipeline, with the VP Wellness Commercial Lead. Develop and execute strategies to optimize assortment. Proactively assess and monitor the competitive landscape and marketplace to determine potential opportunities or threats .
  • New Brand Identification and Onboarding: Leads team accountable for scouting and securing new brands, in alignment with the broader Wellness strategy, that offer expansion in key territories, points of differentiation, and capitalization on emerging trends. Responsible for brand pitches, negotiations, assortment selection, pricing architecture and forecasting. Partners with Brands and internal merchandising, marketing, and digital partners to navigate operating processes for a successful launch and partnership across all major channels (in-store, digital, omni, etc.)
  • Brand Growth, Expansion and Education: Work closely with brands to drive and influence strong, compelling product pipeline and exclusive propositions to drive growth and focus on brand education within the core Wellness and Merchandising teams, also through our store associates and teams with key partners in Store Operations and Education
  • Financial Success: Accountable for driving YOY financial improvement of Ulta brand launches creating long term sales relationships, measure and establish success standards. Includes preparation and reporting of performance as it relates to sales, productivity and overall merch efforts in key meetings; analysis of sales, feedback and historical data to inform category and territory strategies and product decisions
  • Promotions development: Leads development, with key Wellness and Merchandising partners, of the promotional strategy and calendar, including initiatives that support Wellness throughout the year
  • In-Store Merchandising: In partnership with VP Wellness Commercial Lead and key cross-functional partners, help develop and execute in store marketing and merchandising
  • Ulta Beauty Voice (to Industry): Represent Ulta Beauty on panels, in media and as needed
  • Team Leadership, Culture & Development: Lead, coach and develop direct and cross-functional team to achieve financial objectives and prepare them for success and broader responsibilities
  • Cross-functional Collaboration: Balance competing interests and needs across the organization to arrive at a clear vision, communicating effectively and aligning various partners

THE ESSENTIALS FOR SUCCESS:

  • Minimum of 12+ years of progressive merchandising experience in retail, with both merchandising and planning/inventory experience; demonstrated ability to deliver financial results across a large, multi-classification/multi-brand business
  • Wellness experience a plus, preference for consumer-facing Retail experience in Beauty, Fashion or Apparel
  • Credible merchant leader in the industry with a track-record of managing successful vendor relationships, initiating new brand launches (including exclusivity, marketing and promotion), building powerful brand relationships and driving customer loyalty
  • Financially savvy and analytical, ability to gather, understand and analyze data and performance metrics essential to building a business/category within the growing and constantly changing beauty landscape
  • Proven experience with negotiation, demonstrated success in strong communication, interpersonal skills, problem solving and decision-making ability to quickly influence, establish relationships, gain credibility, trust and senior executives and brand partners
  • Minimum of 5+ years leading a team with a strong focus on team member growth and development that reinforces company culture and long-term growth
  • High emotional intelligence and ability to style-flex your approach based on the needs of the brands, internal and external stakeholders
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office. Knowledge of SAP and SAP Hana a plus

 

: The pay range for this position is $201,900.00 - $240,000.00 / Year with the opportunity for eligible associates to earn additional compensation pursuant to the Company’s bonus plan. Exact pay will be based on factors including, but not limited to relevant education, qualifications, certifications, experience, level, shift, geographic location, and business and organizational needs. Full-time positions are eligible for paid time off, health, dental, vision, life and disability benefits. Part-time positions are eligible for dental, vision, life, and disability benefits.
