Job Description

Position: Chief Financial Officer (CFO) Company: Pen Pioneer LLC (Veteran-Owned Staffing & Recruiting Firm) Location: Remote (with periodic on-site meetings) Compensation: $115,000 – $140,000 base salary + Performance Bonus + Equity Options (negotiable depending on experience) About Pen Pioneer: Pen Pioneer is a fast-growing, veteran-owned staffing and recruiting firm that serves clients across construction, legal, healthcare, manufacturing, IT, and professional services. We provide full-service recruiting solutions including permanent placement, contract staffing, executive search, and subscription-based recruiting models. As we enter the next phase of growth, we're hiring a hands-on CFO to build, lead, and optimize the financial infrastructure that supports scalable, profitable expansion. Position Summary: The CFO will serve as a core member of Pen Pioneer's executive leadership team, directly responsible for financial strategy, reporting, forecasting, cash management, budgeting, and compliance. This role requires both strategic oversight and tactical execution, ensuring strong financial controls while helping the company scale profitably. The CFO will work closely with the CEO and COO to manage revenue forecasting, margin optimization, cost containment, and capital allocation. Key Responsibilities: Financial Strategy & Forecasting Lead financial planning, forecasting, and cash flow management. Build financial models to support business decisions and growth targets. Analyze profitability by service line (perm, temp, subscription, executive search) and optimize pricing models. Financial Reporting & Compliance Full-cycle financial reporting: P&L, balance sheet, cash flow, variance analysis. Maintain accuracy of monthly, quarterly, and annual financial reporting. Oversee tax filings, audits, insurance, compliance, and legal financial obligations. Manage QuickBooks or similar accounting platform. Cash Flow & Capital Allocation Monitor cash position, working capital, and reserve balances. Provide recommendations for reinvestment, reserve allocations, and capital deployment. Manage vendor payments, collections, and accounts receivable oversight. Profitability & Margin Optimization Evaluate staffing margins, recruiter utilization rates, labor models, and cost structures. Partner with recruiting and sales leadership to optimize operational costs. Analyze headcount planning, compensation models, and sales commissions. Risk Management Build financial safeguards for risk management and debt positioning. Ensure adequate insurance coverage, legal compliance, and business continuity planning. Leadership Collaboration Serve as financial advisor to the CEO and executive leadership team. Build and oversee finance department personnel as company scales. Participate in board meetings and investor relations (if applicable). Qualifications: ~8+ years financial leadership experience (CFO, Controller, or FP&A Director). ~ Prior experience in staffing, recruiting, or professional services industries strongly preferred. ~ Financial modeling, forecasting, and budgeting expertise required. ~ Strong understanding of cash flow management, labor-based business models, and margin-driven operations. ~ Knowledge of QuickBooks, Excel, CRM/ATS reporting systems. ~ Experience with legal compliance, tax law, insurance, and audits. ~ Analytical, detail-oriented, and strategic thinker. ~ Comfortable operating in a fast-growth, founder-led company. ~ Veteran status or experience supporting veteran-owned businesses is a plus.
