The Boiler Plant Operator position is located in the Engineering Service of the VA Medical Center in Memphis, TN and is assigned to the operations, maintenance and repair of the Boiler Operator.

This job is open to the public and federal employees eligible for priority over other applicants. The job is located in Memphis, TN and is a full-time position with a salary range of $27.41 - $31.94 per hour. The position is permanent and does not require relocation expenses, remote work, or travel. It is a non-sensitive (NS)/low risk position with no drug test or security clearance required.
Incumbent will be assigned to the operations, maintenance, and repair of the Boiler Plant on rotating shifts. When working night shift, weekends and holidays, incumbent is unsupervised and acts in a decision-making capacity. During this time, incumbent is responsible for insuring that all operational techniques and maintenance procedures are carried out. Also, after regular working hours, weekends, and holidays, incumbent receives emergency trouble calls on all medical center equipment. Major duties include:
Work Schedule: Operate on an 8-hour shift, 24 hours per day, 7 days per week and must rotate the different shifts at planned intervals.

Physical Requirements/Working Conditions: Boiler Plant Operator frequently works in confined areas in and around boiler and support equipment. The work requires moderate to strenuous effort and long periods of walking, standing, climbing, bending, and crouching. Operator must be able to lift and carry heavy parts and equipment weighing up to fifty pounds. Must make repairs from ladders, scaffolding and platforms, stretch, bend and crawl through small openings such as 12"X16" elliptical opening.
